The Baker

You never see the face. Just the hands that knead the dough and pat her head. The one who gave her the beret and scarf.

First appears in Ep. 3

Ficelle

A dachshund as long as a bus. She's named after the ficelle, the thinnest, longest baguette of all. She's always late because she gives all of Les Pois Pois a ride on her long back. So Chou Blanc always “happens” to have one loaf left over.

Les Pois Pois

Five who look exactly alike,
just in different colors

Five pea-sized pups who patter around the neighborhood together. They always walk in a line, and for longer trips they all pile onto Ficelle's long back. Chou Blanc dug through her French dictionary and picked each of them a pastry name.

What's in a name

Kongkong-dan (their Korean name)
In Korean, “kong” means bean, “kongkong” is the sound of tiny pattering feet, and “dan” means gang. So: the pea-sized pitter-patter gang.
Les Pois Pois
In French, pois means pea, and “à pois” means polka-dotted, which suits spotty Pépite perfectly.
Lineup order
Vanille → Marron → Truffe → Pépite → Abricot. They climb onto Ficelle's back in this order too.
  • Les Pois Pois Vanille1

    Vanille

    vanilla

    Leader

Idolizes Chou Blanc and copies everything she does. Tried to copy her curly bangs and ended up in a tangle.

  • Les Pois Pois Marron2

    Marron

    chestnut

    Foodie

A walking crumb detector. Her mouth is always full, so every line she says is “mmf mmf.”

  • Les Pois Pois Truffe3

    Truffe

    chocolate truffle

    Sleepyhead

Eyes always half-closed. Pretends to nap, but never misses the important bits.

  • Les Pois Pois Pépite4

    Pépite

    chocolate chip

    Troublemaker

Her tail moves first and the rest of her follows. Most accidents are Pépite's doing.

  • Les Pois Pois Abricot5

    Abricot

    apricot

    The baby

The smallest, and amazed by everything. Always trips at least once at the end of the line. Nickname: “Abby.”

Today's mood

Hmph, huff, wag wag, C'est la vie!

Chou Blanc's words and tail always say opposite things. Which face will it be today?

Chou Blanc's French Dictionary

Here are the French words she uses all the time, with what they mean.

Bonjour
Hello. / Good morning.
Said elegantly to the first customer of the day. Even when she's happy to see you, her head stays slightly turned away.
Merci
Thank you.
Said very quietly to customers buying bread. Her tail is already wagging away.
Bien sûr
Of course.
When someone compliments her. Delivered with a prim little head toss.
C'est la vie
Oh well. That's life.
What she sighs when a baguette comes out bent. Then she secretly eats it herself.
